Playa del Carmen is place that centuries ago the Mayans settled, as in the rest of the country of Mexico. It´s mayan name was Xaman-Ha that means a place where the water of Xaman (a God) emerged. It was also where the Mayans parted towards Cozumel.

After this discovering, Playa del Carmen turned into a municipality with a fishing tradition since many fishermen settled here in this region. Up until the late 20th century, Playa del Carmen was just a normal fishing town with no more than 2000 inhabitants. It is from there when it started to transform to better accommodate the growing tourism rates, and now has become one of the most important spots in the country.

Puerto del Carmen has suffered an incredible metamorphisis in the history of the last years. Hotels, apartments chalets...and everything to make this a perfect holiday spot. You can also visit it´s many historic places like the mayan ruins or natural paradises.
